Michael Semb Wever commented on CASSANDRA-17753:
------------------------------------------------

No objections to the git build dependency.

But I have a two requests/suggestions:
- can (should) we avoid having this in released versions? it is valuable in
snapshot versions, but our released versions are fixed to a sha and the sha has
little meaning to the end user then.
- can the git build stuff be moved (encapsulated) into a `.build/build-git.xml`
file please.

> Include GitSHA in nodetool version output

> It can be useful to see specifically which Git SHA a running instance of
> Cassandra was built with, especially when running clusters in development for
> soak testing.
>
> I have a patch ready for this, and am preparing it now.
