Right, that seems like the best interim solution to me. (I thought we could
even delete it from old branches to make it clear that it's not in lockstep
with the rest of the tree, but Eric pointed out that if something like 3010 is
depending on it, we can't do that. Still, having it present but "frozen" in
the branches feels like a relatively minor downside.)
