Btw, the reason I put {{DirectBufferRef}} in {{Ref.java}} is not to change the
package protected variable {{referent}}. And having {{DirectBufferRef}} makes
it simple to replace any use of {{Ref}} as a {{ByteBuffer}} attachment, such as
in {{MerkleTree}}.
