I've attached a patch to this issue that should resolve your problem - and
thanks for doing the legwork of figuring out where and why it was happening!
Given the test I added uses essentially your test code above, and requires your
node tool changes to test the bug, please apply it to your branch and make sure
it resolves the bug and include it in this issue.
