Simulator patch pushed in CASSANDRA-18616. With and without the current patch
here the tests pass with JDK17 so we are good regarding what [~dcapwell]
mentioned. Thank you!
New commits pushed by [~djatnieks] to the PR to address some of the current
feedback. I will continue reviewing tomorrow
