In the paper "Understanding and Detecting Software Upgrade Failures in
Distributed Systems" the authors identify several hidden issues with Cassandra
upgrade capabilities. Indeed these were submitted as bugs and fixed. The
authors also point out that a failure during upgrade (or downgrade) is a
critical failure often taking out a whole cluster.
This issue is to find/create a testing library similar to the one described at
[2] that is integrated into the Cassandra build system at appropriate points.
Those points to be determined as development of the solution progresses.
