I think a few questions are in order:
# Is compression selection really part of the schema? My impression is that
the schema defines what goes into the tables, not how the tables are written
(e.g. different SSTable formats).
# is compaction selection part of the schema?
# do we allow nodes to have different compaction?
# If we allow different compaction on different nodes why would we not allow
different compression?
# If we have settings that must be the same across all the nodes do we have a
way to identify them in the configuration?
# if we can identify them, how do we guarantee that they are not different
across the nodes?
# If we can identify them, how do we set them?
