I think it's great that the CDC reader is coming along, but this was merged
without a single performance test and no feedback other than teammates who both
+1'ed the patch without any outside input.
I realize we're not in the habit of reverting changes, but to merge such a big
piece of functionality in without doing *any* public performance testing is not
OK.
I'm taking this to the ML, because at the moment I'm inclined to -1 the patch
and ask for it to be reverted.
