Note sure what is the current HEAD of 1.0.0 given that branch as been removed
in favor of the 1.0 one. But if it still points to the line

assert mutationColumn != null;

then I'm willing to bet it's another bug, since I believe the preceding
assertions should have fired before this one if this was old-style hints. In
which case, do you mind opening a new ticket?
