trunk is unstable it seems... been triaging the different failures between this
branch (multiple runs) and latest trunk builds... as far as I can tell this
patch doesn't cause any regressions, but there are just too many test failures
(and several in accord; which this patch touches)...
I am going to merge... and for the Accord failures I am trying to poke related
people about this...
