While working on a recent [cassandra-quarkus
release|https://github.com/datastax/cassandra-quarkus/releases/tag/1.4.0] I
came across a report on observability in Quarkus from a few years ago. That
report mentioned some [issues with
MicroProfile|https://quarkus.io/blog/quarkus-observability-roadmap-2023/#metrics-and-micrometer]
leading to an ultimate conclusion that MicroProfile support would be dropped
in a future version of Quarkus... and so it has with 3.31.0.
We've dropped this support in cassandra-quarkus even though it's still
maintained in the Java driver but it got me to wondering... should we
consolidate on a single metrics impl in the Java driver as well? Any such
decision should certainly be made within the context of OpenTelemetry (which is
coming soon!) but it seemed worth considering on it's own.
