Peter Schuller commented on CASSANDRA-3526:
-------------------------------------------
The code for cleanup was less overlapping with normal compaction than I
thought. Leaving this open but de-assigning as I don't envision getting to this
any time soon.
> support 'clean-on-compact' mode of operation

> Priority: Minor

> Instead of having 'cleanup' be a bulky long-term operation that goes through
> the entire data set, it would be useful if, after whatever criteria you would
> normally use to satisfy yourself that it's safe to run cleanup, you simply
> made the node enter a mode whereby all compaction operations (that happen
> anyway) also clean up.
> This would make the bootstrapping of new nodes less of a burden in terms of
> performance and operational overhead.
