I'd suggest to make the {{maxElements}} to "drain" somewhat proportional to the
size of the queue, using maybe some thresholds. This would mostly be about
taking only one element per thread from the queue when it's almost empty to
avoid serializing tasks processing, and draining several when it's more full.
The expected behavior would be to keep latency low at light/nominal load and
increasing throughput at heavy load.
