btw, this problem would be easily alleviated if there wasn't so much 
duplication in the scripts, some of which get updated and others forgotten... 
why not consolidate the duplication into a single master script? For backwards 
compatibility, the existing scripts can continue to exist but just call the 
master script with appropriate parameters.
