The last patch for counters to AbstractCassandraStorage.java has not been
applied either to cassandra-1.2 or to the trunk. Consequently, the problem
still exists in 1.2.9, as I could verify myself today. I found another recent
bug report on SO for the same problem:

Should I open a new bug report for the counters bug even though we have a
working patch or will you reopen the current issue?
