Since the test config uses the "batch" mode for the commitlog, safe writes are 
quite slow.  In tests that don't rely on safe writes, we should use unsafe 
writes.  This mostly consists of converting {{RowMutation.apply()}} calls into 
{{RowMutation.applyUnsafe()}} calls.
