Full ContentObject Relational Mapping, Persistence and Caching for JavaApache CayenneTM is an open source persistence framework licensed under the Apache License, providing object-relational mapping (ORM) and remoting services. With a wealth of unique and powerful features, Cayenne can address a wide range of persistence needs. Cayenne seamlessly binds one or more database schemas directly to Java objects, managing atomic commit and rollbacks, SQL generation, joins, sequences, and more. With Cayenne's Remote Object Persistence, those Java objects can even be persisted out to clients via Web Services. Cayenne is designed to be easy to use, without sacrificing flexibility or design. To that end, Cayenne supports database reverse engineering and generation, as well as a Velocity-based class generation engine. All of these functions can be controlled directly through the CayenneModeler, a fully functional GUI tool. No cryptic XML or annotation based configuration is required! An entire database schema can be mapped directly to Java objects within minutes, all from the comfort of the GUI-based CayenneModeler. Cayenne supports numerous other features, including caching, a complete object query syntax, relationship pre-fetching, on-demand object and relationship faulting, object inheritance, database auto-detection, and generic persisted objects. Most importantly, Cayenne can scale up or down to virtually any project size. With a mature, 100% open source framework, an energetic user community, and a track record of solid performance in high-volume environments, Cayenne is an exceptional choice for persistence services. NewsCayenne 3 isn't resting on its laurels. It is still growing and developing, and today we are pleased to announce the first milestone of version 3.1. This is not a beta and 3.1 is not yet feature-complete, but it gives users an insight into the direction Cayenne is heading in and an opportunity to give us feedback. The key features added to 3.1 so far are:
An invitation to the Apache Sydney Unconference: 11 December 2010 On Saturday 11th December, the Apache Software Foundation and the University of Sydney are holding an open source themed Unconference. This is an event where the theme is set in advance, but the sessions to be presented are only decided on at the event, based on those who come along (sometimes also known as a BarCamp). They provide an excellent opportunity to learn, present and discuss, … By vote of the Apache Cayenne PMC, Xenia Khailenka is now a committer to this project. Xenia graduated from the Belarusian State University, faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, specialising in Mathematical Informatics. Xenia's professional working career focuses on web-applications development and desktop-applications development based on Swing. When asked why she was interested in Cayenne, Xenia responded: "I consider programming as an exciting entertainment, … The Cayenne project is happy to announce the release of Cayenne 3.0.1. This is a minor bug fix release and recommended for all users of Cayenne 3. The are numerous bug fixes and the following improvements:
Cayenne Modeler
Persistent Java classes are generated and synchronized with the mapping using the Modeler or alternatively with an Ant task. A database SQL schema can be generated from the Modeler and also with simple API calls.
