tested in a lab env executing `echo {1..10000000}` in the vm and monitoring
the host with `watch free`. I can see the host memory shoot up and when the
shell is aborted due to stack overflow, the host memory gos to the original
state again. I am not sure if my test is adequate enough though. cc @bradh352

I lean towards merging.
