Generally speaking we don't want to trample each other's work. In
this case, however, Joerg has free run to deal with struct dirent
issues because we are under time pressure here (mainly from me pushing
to get it done). It may not have been polite, and those types of
operations definitely need to be done in a more polite manner, but
neither is out of the blue in this case.
