Rebased onto branch-4.1 `8d2018bdc7` and resolved the conflict in `test_iceberg_variant_read.groovy`. The resolution preserves the upstream safe metadata-pruning boundary and error-barrier coverage, while retaining this PR's direct unshredded-path and zero-root-reconstruction checks. Spark's refresh before cross-engine verification is retained once. Reviewed the full range-diff: 34 of 35 patches are unchanged; only the conflicted regression script changes in the remaining patch. No additional product logic was introduced by the conflict resolution. Validation: FE Checkstyle passed, all 119 affected C++ source/header files passed clang-format 16, and the resolved Groovy suite compiled successfully.
