Yes. Storing in the Gravitino is adds more flexibility. Previously (in the first several versions of Gravitino), our design goal is to store the metadata into the underlying data sources as possible as we can, to keep Gravitino as a thin proxy layer. But things have changed a lot when we adopt more and more features that can only be handled in the Gravitino layer.
