Closing as superseded. Issue #12480 was resolved and **closed as COMPLETED**
by @roryqi on 2026-08-24, right after PR #12482 ("[#12480] improvement(server):
Add table-like existence probe privilege", merged 2026-08-24T01:45:36Z) landed.
#12482 touches the same four files this PR changes — `BaseCatalog#getTable`,
`GravitinoHiveCatalog#getTable`, `TestBaseCatalog` and
`TestGravitinoHiveCatalog` — and additionally adds a server-side table-like
existence-probe privilege, so the speculative-schema-probe case is handled on
the server without the connector-side `isSpeculativeSchemaProbe()` heuristic
proposed here.
Current `main` already contains the equivalent connector behavior:
`BaseCatalog#getTable` wraps `ForbiddenException` as `CatalogException`
(`flink-connector/flink-common/.../catalog/BaseCatalog.java:285-287`), which is
exactly the outcome this PR aimed for.
With #12480 closed and the fix already in `main`, this branch is stale and
redundant — closing it. Thanks to everyone who looked at it.
