Hi Nick, apologies for the slow response, I saw your first post but missed the
second.
To answer your questions:
* I'm using 9.14 binary form the guacamole downloads so whatever that has
linked into it would be the libvncserver library it's compiled against.
* TightVNC does not support xrandr for dynamic screen resolution, while
TigerVNC does.
* Centos Window manager was XFCE and using TigerVNC for dynamic screen res.
xrandr is supported.
I'm happy to report that Ubuntu 17.10 (artful release), LXDE and TigerVNC
(TigerVNC packages for Ubuntu in 17.10) does seem to work much better:
