This issue happens inside hive code at this line: https://github.com/apache/hive/blob/rel/release-2.3.6/service/src/java/org/apache/hive/service/cli/operation/GetColumnsOperation.java#L173 This is because **primaryKeys** is turning up as null, and this is happening because of a bug in our internal glue catalog client, where if the primary key is not defined it returns null instead of an empty list. That breaks this piece of code. EMR will be adding Hudi support as an app in its next release, where we will be fixing this bug in the glue client as well. Then your updates will succeed as well. Until then, may be you can try defining a primary key to get around this bug ?
