I have been using the primary key ordered table in our production environment for nearly a year, and there have been significant improvements in reading, writing, and merging. If no one is following up, I am very willing to take over this rfc, and I will contribute the version I have implemented. Our version is based on the latest reading and merging logic of 1.x.
