This issue was reviewed as part of the JIRA-migrated backlog triage (HUDI-9651). **Findings: still open.** The body is a bare review-comment link with no restatement, so the specific concern is only recoverable by reading that thread. Worth capturing it here: whether dropping the MDT is the right response to a lagging MDT during 7-to-8, versus upgrading it in step. Related and more concrete: #17121 (HUDI-9660) proposes keeping MDT and data table at most one version apart, which would remove the lagging case entirely. **One thing worth flagging to avoid a mis-triage:** the PR linked in the description, #13519 (`[HUDI-8401] Fix 8 to 9 Upgrade handler and 9 to 8 downgrade handler`), **is merged** (2025-08-16).
