This issue was reviewed as part of the JIRA-migrated backlog triage (HUDI-9689). **Findings: still open.** The second half is the more valuable one: adding validation that the configured payload class matches the custom payload merger would catch the exact mismatch the first half describes, rather than relying on tests being written correctly. Note the referenced line is in a fork branch, so the current location in `BufferedRecordMergerFactory` needs re-deriving. **One thing worth flagging to avoid a mis-triage:** the PR linked in the description, #13600 (`[HUDI-9602] Use BufferedRecordMerger for dedup and global index paths`), **is merged** (2025-08-05). But that is the change this ticket was filed as a follow-up to - not a fix for it. Nothing indicates the follow-up work itself has landed.
