@cb149 I could not reproduce the issue locally. I started producing to Kafka just seconds before starting the streaming app. I am sharing the code and logs in [this gist](https://gist.github.com/codope/1c0bc720ab118b36bbe0bc9cce120de1) (i've suppressed the usual spark info logs and only printing the offsets and numInputRows for each batch of streaming).
