## Summary ConsumerGroupHeartbeat (68) and ConsumerGroupDescribe (69) are not served. Who hits it: - Consumers with `group.protocol=consumer`. Kafka trunk still defaults to `classic`. librdkafka has had KIP-848 since 2.12, and its documentation says that its default will change. - The Java consumer fails from `poll()` with "The cluster does not support the new CONSUMER group protocol". librdkafka fails fatally. franz-go falls back to classic. ## Depends on - the topic id issue, because assignments name topics by id ## Scope - [ ] Server-side assignment with the uniform and range assignors - [ ] Member epochs and the heartbeat state machine - [ ] Regex subscriptions - [ ] ConsumerGroupDescribe - [ ] Groups that mix classic and KIP-848 members during an upgrade ## Acceptance criteria - [ ] The Java consumer and librdkafka consume with `group.protocol=consumer` - [ ] A group moves from classic to KIP-848 members one member at a time, and keeps its offsets ## References - Default protocol: [ConsumerConfig.java:120-123](https://github.com/apache/kafka/blob/b15258c7398889248d7fbf2a2218cc01346ebf92/clients/src/main/java/org/apache/kafka/clients/consumer/ConsumerConfig.java#L120-L123) -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
