On the red Swift lane from the review summary: the `build-macos` lane uses the Swift 6.1 that ships with Xcode on the runner, and 6.1 rejects `$0` inside a `defer` block, which 6.4 accepts. 7da92036a replaced those three test helpers with a small `exchange` on the test lock. I also built and tested with Swift 6.1 and 6.4 in Docker before pushing.
