Currently, handling REST invocation failures through an error-handling subprocess may require extending or duplicating the REST WIH implementation. This is undesirable because it duplicates existing REST/Vert.x logic and may not integrate cleanly with the process editor/code generation. The REST WIH should be enhanced so that, when configured, failures during REST invocation (including unhandled exceptions and request/response errors) result in a ProcessWorkItemHandlerException. The existing process-level error-handling mechanism can then start the configured error-handling subprocess and apply the configured handling strategy, such as RETRY. This mechanism is already supported by the process engine for ProcessWorkItemHandlerException. **Proposed solution** - Add optional error-handling configuration to the REST Work Item Handler: - Error handler process ID - Error handling strategy (e.g. RETRY, COMPLETE, ABORT, RETHROW) - Prefer providing these values through the existing Work Item I/O/parameters rather than requiring UI changes, if feasible. - When the configuration is present and the REST invocation fails, the REST WIH should throw a ProcessWorkItemHandlerException containing: - The configured error handler process ID - The configured handling strategy - The original/root-cause exception - When the configuration is not provided, existing REST WIH behaviour must remain unchanged. - Reuse the existing REST WIH implementation and Vert.x/REST invocation logic rather than introducing a custom handler that duplicates the implementation. - Add or adapt examples/tests demonstrating REST invocation failure handled by an error subprocess, including the RETRY strategy. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
