Building on the device is painful and seemed impossibly slow. There are mentions in the native build route about managing memory and increasing swapfile - that dump looks a lot like when things fail because of running out of memory. Also my Pi 2 didn't work. Only Zack's Pi 3B seemed to have the juice needed to successfully install MXNet. I note this at the beginning of the instructions.
