Ross Lamont commented on NETBEANS-877:
--------------------------------------
The issue doesn't happen for all plugins. In fact I think it only happens for
some really core plugins, specifically IDE Platform and Ant as mentioned above.
When I first encountered this issue some time back before I did a clean
install, I think I had about 5 plugins in my list, unfortunately I can't
remember which ones. Through a trial and error approach I narrowed it down to
IDE Platform and Ant.
So I think this issue is pretty important given the importance of those plugins.
I'm not going to have a chance to retry this until tomorrow, but because the
plugins which cause the problem are part of the distro, I don't really get how
to test it on the latest release. It would only become testable once new
versions of IDE Platform or Ant become available.
I suspect this is why it's not been seen too often - most core developers
probably get up to date builds and so don't get to see the process of updating
core plugins that often. Of course that is speculation and I don't mean to
incidentally disparage anyone!
So in terms of doing a test, I'd take the following steps:
* Delete your cache and user directory
* Install and start rc1 (not rc2)
* Choose not to import old settings and plugins
* Run an update from the plugin update centre. You should get asked about
+IDE Platform+ and +Ant+ and perhaps others. For the sake of consistency, only
choose to update those 2.
Hopefully you can reproduce the problem this way - that is what I did last
night.
