Matthias Bläsing resolved NETBEANS-3008.

Resolution: Incomplete
The stacktrace of the AssertionError comes from javac, the IDE disables
assertions for production builds. So two things:
* update to a recent netbeans/nbjavac version
* update the JDK you are using
