I hope it can be fixed soon.
As of NETBEANS-3323 Compile on Save is still not implemented, maybe it won't be
ever.
However you could customize the gradle deploy action to add the following flag:
-t, --continuous Enables continuous build. Gradle does not exit and will
re-execute tasks when task file inputs change.
