My guess is that this was coming from a case when a single node was taking a
long time to respond. Since we were merging responses in this case, we would
need to wait for all nodes to respond. When this happened, it sounds like we
were returning a poor error message to the user. I don't recall ever address
anything like this, but maybe someone did while addressing another ticket.
We could close as not an issue until we encounter it again (especially since
the details here are short).
