Unfortunately on my system I can't get the test to fail either running in
single-threaded or multi-threaded modes.
I'm not personally familiar with this test, but looking at it, that could
definitely be the issue. The {{conf}} directory is set up once in the
{{before}} method and the beginning of {{testPersistEtagLastMod}} clearly
deletes all files contained in the {{conf}} directory. The static teardown in
{{after}} also looks for this directory and I don't see it being reconstituted
anywhere.
Try adding {{@NotThreadSafe}} as an annotation to the entire test class and see
if that gives you different results.
