​My last comment made some assumptions and may be more suitable (as a whole or 
in part) at a future point. Below is a simpler approach that should work well 
with the current UI.

* User clicks 'Stop'
* Update styling of the active thread count (box with number)​ so user is aware 
of a change
* Provide a tooltip from the thread count indicating it is in the process of 
stopping (appropriate language TBD) and inform user they can forcibly stop (ie, 
kill) via the context menu
* Stop action in context menu changes to _kill_ option with relevant icon
