build is good. scoped this out with the formatter settings in clion and
that was largely the same. not related to the new line length, but clion seems
to default to applying the asterisk on pointer decls to the variable as opposed
to the type. Google style guide indicates that either is fine. Anyway, looks
good here. Will merge.
