Adam - this is great thanks. It will be a bit of slow merge most likely simply
because this is a pretty substantial change. Will need to review licensing and
performance implications but this looks like a really good step/direction to go
in. I think dumping those properties for tar/zip are totally fine provided the
performance implications are reasonable.
