I've seen some issues with the Maven checkstyle plugin failing the build when
it shouldn't. And sometimes it doesn't fail the build when it should. It
appears to be a threading bug in the plugin, as I haven't seen the issue so far
when running single-threaded.
I think we should move the checkstyle plugin into a profile so that it has to
be explicitly enabled for now.
