I tried finding the contributor guide while responding to a mailing list
question and the closest I got was a small bit at the end of our dev guide:

Later Joe pointed to the actual contrib guide on the wiki:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NIFI/Contributor+Guide
we should link to this document from the community tab (or maybe development?
