The correct fix for consistencies would be to add support for the standard Unix . and .. entries to SPIFFS and SmartFS and NOT to remove the standard functionality from other file systems. That is a bug in the SPIFFS and SmartFS file system and must be fixed (and not used as justification for removing the correctly implemented functionality from other file systems).
