Don't worry about stepping on my work, I think I will just wait a bit to see how the socket interface turns out since it is otherwise difficult for me to understand what should I change in the ATT layers and above to use it. Similarly, for operating the HCI socket I imagine there should be some supporting code to build the HCI packets to send over the socket. There is some code on bt_hcicore.c but this means there should also be some user-level code for this. Right now it is a bit all too coupled for me to understand how to decouple and I think you have better understanding than me on how it should look.
