If you are going to use channel-add use:
pear channel-add http://pear.apache.org/oodt/channel.xml
and similar for update
pear channel-update http://pear.apache.org/oodt/channel.xml
Normally; following the instructions on the
http://pear.apache.org/oodt/index.html page is good enough
i.e. use pear channel-discover pear.apache.org/oodt
