This makes sense from a usability perspective. To clarify the intent: is the expectation that `stat` should become more forgiving (for example, a service-specific fallback that retries with or without a trailing slash), or is the goal to define a new cross-service semantic where `stat(path)` can infer file vs directory without requiring the user to be explicit?
