On the 512-character limit: instead of writing no keys for a value that is too long, consider writing truncated bounds, as Parquet, Iceberg and Delta do: - Lower bound: the first N characters. Any prefix sorts at or before the full value. - Upper bound: the first N characters with the last character incremented. This sorts after every value that starts with that prefix.
