This seems to be OK, because if `savedPeriodicTaskProperties` is
initialized to `null` by default, then `_activePeriodicTaskProperties` might be
modified to `null` instead of its original value in `finally` block if there is
an exception in the try block before savedPeriodicTaskProperties is initialized.
