The retention pass had no such check: a conversation past the retention age with a run in flight was deleted anyway, leaving the worker streaming into a workspace that no longer exists and inserting event rows nobody can read any more. Retention has no mandate to kill an answer the user is watching, so the purge now skips conversations that still have a QUEUED or RUNNING run and picks them up on a later pass, once they are idle.
