I don't think the exceptions you see are interfering with the Search Index,
they seem to be in response to request. I suspect they are a result of a theme
problem.
When I delete my search index and then run with DEBUG turned on, I see this in
my logs:

org.apache.roller.weblogger.business.search.operations to see
